Everywhere around us there are opportunities to adopt smart technology to improve the quality of life,” begins Deepak Vijayaraj, Managing Director of Unite IT Consulting. Today, factors like rapid urbanization, increasing pollution, and aging infrastructure combined with the rising global pressure to remain viable in the face of diminishing resources are steering cities around the world to harness the power of digital technologies like IoT. Catalyzing this shift by providing the necessary expertise and solutions is Unite IT Consulting, a global professional IT consulting firm based in Parramatta, Australia. The company provides strategy and advisory to city councils, as well as delivers a wide range of products and services that help set up smart city infrastructure to enhance connectivity, liveability, productivity, and resilience. “Our vision is to have an impact on the life of people by creating a cleaner and healthier environment,” adds Deepak. “We offer solutions and services which help identify infrastructure assets that need be retrofitted with smart applications to increase capacity, efficiency, reliability, and resilience, and deliver a better quality of life.”

Unite IT Consulting’s solution portfolio spans numerous verticals and includes solutions for asset and environmental monitoring, building management, parking, and utility services such as water, power, and lighting. “As a part of ‘The Things Network’ global initiative, which aims to build an open, free, and community-owned IoT data network, all of our products create rich data connectivity that helps businesses flourish in the IoT market,” says Deepak. “While we provide varied solutions, our core focus is on water, airport and electricity management.”
For instance, Unite IT Consulting’s smart power grid solution provides advanced current, voltage, and power quality measurements, making it easier to transmit electricity more efficiently and better manage variations in its generation and consumption. Additionally, the company’s smart street lighting operates autonomously, using light level sensors and motion detectors that ensure the right amount of light is provided as and when needed. In-depth grid management integrated into the lighting solution provides accurate real-time feedback on any change occurring along the grid as well as advanced maintenance optimization.

The company delivers a wide range of products and services that help set up smart city infrastructure to enhance connectivity, liveability, productivity, and resilience

While there is a myriad of smart water metering solutions on the market, there is a lack of an end-to-end solution that monitors every point in the distribution network to proactively identify issues. Enter, Unite IT Consulting’s smart water management solution that delivers comprehensive monitoring of different stages of water lifecycle—starting with rain, ground, lake, and reservoir water level; water pressure and quality throughout the distribution network; and leakage and smart metering. In addition to smart lighting and smart water metering, the company also provides smart parking solution that uses long-range wireless sensors to monitor parking spaces in real time.

Deepak proceeds to state that apart from Unite IT Consulting’s employees, who are the linchpin behind the company’s ongoing success, their partnership with Australian Smart Communities (ASCA), and firms like Microshare and Flashnet adds to Unite IT Consulting’s growth. “Our collaboration with these organizations has helped us gain more customers and better understand the different market pain points,” he adds.

In a short time, Unite IT Consulting has been able to carve a niche for itself in the IT landscape with its deep industry expertise and easy-to-use solutions and services. Moving ahead, the company plans to invest in resources to create an open IoT platform that will integrate data from different industries and leverage it to develop core solutions that help build smart cities. “We want to be one of the major contributors of the smart city revolution in Australia,” concludes Deepak.
